Lucy Blake-Elahi shares her vast artistic career of painting, drawing, public arts and sculpting with the Southern California Women's Caucus for Art (SCWCA). Lucy Blake-Elahi is a longstanding arts educator, exhibiting and public artist who has served two past terms as president of SCWCA. Currently living in Culver City, the native Brooklynite and Pratt Institute graduate continues to teach at West Los Angeles College and produce art in her home studio and exhibit her work widely. Lucy Blake-Elahi was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941. Her educator father once taught Olympic level gymnastics at NYU and her mother, an aspiring interior decorator, did office work outside the home. Lucy was an only child who found her way to art studies at State University of New York, SUNY, at New Paltz and then Pratt Institute, where she got an MS, Master of Science, in Art Education. She began her teaching career in New York public schools while living in a loft near the Chelsea Hotel on 23rd St. in Manhattan. In 1969, she headed west, taking a train across Canada and landing in Los Angeles, eventually finding an ADU in East Hollywood where she could do ceramics and study painting at UCLA. She went on to enjoy a long and vibrant career as an exhibiting and public works artist and was twice president of SCWCA, first in 1987, and again in 2003. For the past 25 years she has taught art at West Los Angeles College. This event took place November 20, 2025.
