Lamborghini Urus SE: The Super SUV Named After a Big Cow

The Lamborghini Urus debuted in late 2017 as a “super SUV” with a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and 641 horsepower. The Urus was a response to the SUV boom, becoming Lamborghini’s first production SUV since the big, boxy LM002 of the 1980s (and second SUV ever). The Volkswagen Group owns Lamborghini, and the Urus shares Volkswagen's MLB Evo platform with vehicles like the Audi Q8, Bentley Bentayga, and Porsche Cayenne Turbo. The Urus is near the top of the “fancy” list. The Urus was a step toward a touchy subject within the supercar industry: SUVs. Not long after the Urus debuted, McLaren said it wouldn’t make an SUV. Also in the 2010s, Ferrari’s CEO said he would absolutely not make an SUV. (Spoiler alert: Ferrari made one.) Ferrari’s SUV became the Purosangue, and the automaker told everyone to call it an “FUV” (or Ferrari Utility Vehicle) instead. This is the Lambo SUV hybrid edition. The model in this video is the new Lamborghini Urus SE, which debuted in 2024 as Lamborghini’s first plug-in hybrid SUV. It has a 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine and hybrid system that makes 789 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque. About 200 horsepower comes from the electric part of the system, and in terms of acceleration, the Urus SE can go from 0 to 62 mph in a claimed 3.4 seconds.  The window sticker on my loaner 2025 Lamborghini Urus SE says it starts at $258,636 with standard air suspension, torque vectoring, and carbon-ceramic brakes. This specific Urus SE has almost $100,000 in options, meaning it’s not the cheapest car for sale. (The Viola Galaxias paint alone is $13,384.)
