O Mio Babbino Caro is a well-known aria from a not-particularly-famous opera, from Puccini’s one-act opera Gianni Schicchi (1918). This aria is one of the most performed arias of the last 100 years. ‘O mio babbino caro’ translates as ‘Oh my dear papa’, and it is sung by Lauretta, who begs her father Gianni Schicchi to help her marry the love of her life, Rinuccio. This arrangement is in the grade 8 repertoire for the RCM Harp program. It is particularly challenging due to the leaps in the right hand and the large arpeggio runs in the left hand, all while being incredibly expressive – pushing and pulling in the melody.
