Find me elsewhere! Patreon: / sandragorden Instagram: / sands.gorden Twitch: / sandragorden Today I'm demonstrating the process I use to build my raised beds! I'll be suggesting build tips for those who may not have access to power tools. Whether you are an absolute beginner or somewhat familiar with wood working, we will assemble a 3x6 raised garden bed together. I'm no expert but this formula have served me well for years and I'm excited to share the start to finish process for making these beds! Tools and Materials to complete this project: Tools: Electric or Manual drill and screw drivers (plus bits to match your screws) Electric or Manual Saw Ruler or Speed Square Measuring Tape or Yard Stick Hearing and Eye protection (goggles, ear plugs) Gloves Needle Nose Pliers or Pry bar (to remove staples) Pencil Materials: 6- Pressure Treated Cedar Fence Pickets (6ft) 1- Pressure Treated Cedar Board (2x2x8ft) 1- 1lb Box of Deck Screws (2in) Step 1- Prep all your wood, remove staples, labels and large splinters Step 2 (optional) - Cut off the remaining corners of the fence pickets so all sides match, this step is purely for decorative purpose and can be skipped. Step 3- Cut 2 of the fence pickets in half so you have 4 pieces, 3ft in length (repeat cutting the corners off of those pieces as well, if desired) Step 4- Cut the 2x2x8 board into 11.5 inch sections to serve as bracers for the pickets (you will need 6 of these sections) Step 5- Attach 2 short panels to one side of the 2x2x1 sections to start building the short end of the bed. First predrill a pilot hole, then screw in each panel one at a time. Step 6- Attach another segment of 2x2 to the opposite side of this panel, on the interior side, as with the first 2x2 Step 7- Affix 2 of the long cedar panels to the other side of one of the 2x2s, creating an L shape. Pre-drill and screw the boards in place, careful to avoid the screws that are present in the board currently. Step 8- Repeat Step 7 on the opposite side, adding the remaining long panels to the other side of the short piece. You should be pleased to see you have made a U shape frame Step 9- Reinforce the long sides of the bed by securing another 2x2 section in the middle of each long side, braces should be affixed to the interior side of each panel. Step 10- Complete the raised bed by securing the remaining 2 short panels to the exposed joints at the end of each long side. You should be left with something that somewhat resembles a rectangular shape, if you can put dirt inside of it then you have done a marvelous job. Please reach out with any questions, enjoy yourself and happy gardening!
