Ingredients For the Dough: 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (may need more) 1 ½ teaspoons instant yeast 2 tablespoons butter, softened to room temperature ⅓ cup water ⅓ cup milk 2 eggs 2 tablespoons granulated sugar ¾ teaspoon salt For the Apple Filling: 3 apples 1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Optional Garnish: 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed Sesame seeds or Swedish pearl sugar Additional sugar (if using sesame seeds) Instructions Make Dough: Mix all dough ingredients in a large bowl using a wooden spoon. If the dough is too sticky, add more flour until it is slightly sticky but manageable. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and stretchy (by hand or machine). First Rise: Cover the dough with a clean, damp tea towel and let it rise in a warm place until puffier (it won’t double in size). This will take about 1 hour. Prepare Apple Filling: While the dough rises, wash, peel, and dice the apples. Toss them with cinnamon and sugar in a bowl and set aside. Cook Apples: Heat a deep pot over medium heat and cook the apple mixture until soft. If the apples start to burn, add 2 tablespoons of water. Let the mixture cool. Prepare Bread Pan: Coat a loaf pan liberally with oil or cooking spray. Divide Dough: Once the dough has risen, divide it into 12 equal balls. Flatten, Fill, and Fold: Roll each ball into a circle about 2-3 inches in diameter and ¼ inch thick. Place a small amount of apple filling in the center, fold the dough in half, and seal the edges. Arrange each piece seam-side down in the prepared loaf pan. Second Rise: Cover the pan and let the dough rise for about 45 minutes, or until the pieces are noticeably puffier. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F. Garnish Bread (Optional): Dot the top of the dough with cubed butter and sprinkle with sesame seeds and sugar. Bake: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown. Cool: Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes.
