Lakes Entrance is a seaside resort and fishing port in eastern Victoria, Australia. It is situated approximately 320 kilometers (200 mi) east of Melbourne. The Entrance is a managed, artificial channel connecting the Gippsland Lakes to the ocean (Bass Strait). The Gippsland Lakes are the largest inland waterway in Australia. There is a pedestrian bridge (The Footbridge) over to the Ninety Mile Beach. The town and the beach are separated by the Cunningham Arm inlet. The 90 Mile beach faces out into Bass Strait. The Entrance Walk: The walk to the Entrance is a 5 kilometre 2-hour return trip through sand dunes, boardwalks and natural trails. It starts at The Footbridge and takes you directly to The Entrance. Walks in East Gippsland: Home to the Gippsland Lakes, Ninety Mile Beach, beautiful inland forests and coastal gems such as Mallacoota, East Gippsland is a walker's paradise. Click on the walk names below for map, directions, photos and information about each walk. Lakes Entrance The Entrance walk (5km return) A stunning loop walk, following the coastal bush track to the actual Lakes 'Entrance', with plenty of highlights. You can choose to return along the track or via the wild, beautiful Ninety Mile Beach. Kalimna Jetty walk, Lakes Entrance (4km return) The hidden gem of Lakes Entrance, this out-of-the-way walk affords some of the best and most uncluttered views over the town and extensive system of waterways this region is famed for. Esplanade walk, Lakes Entrance (5km one-way) The best view of the Gippsland Lakes is the waterfront view!
