The Wild Truth About The Capuchin Trade in Trinidad and Tobago

Capuchin monkeys are increasingly kept and traded in Trinidad and Tobago and this causes tremendous harms to animals, society and the environment. Mother monkeys are typically killed to obtain the babies, and most captive monkeys live only a fraction of their life in the wild. Many people who keep monkeys also put themselves at risk of bites and diseases from an animal that can live more than 40 years in captivity. Overwhelmed keepers will often release these non-native capuchins into the wild which puts local species at risk.
