Hello and welcome once again to... Not My Regular Content lmao. This time around town we're covering some seemingly random Game Boy Color games! What do these games all have in common, you ask? Well, they all made use of the GBC's infrared sensor. That's right! It had one! Like a good ol' TV remote! Back in the day, Ubisoft had the idea of hiding bonus content in some of their games by using what they called the "Ubi Key System". Here's how it worked. Supposedly, hidden in each compatible game was a collectible Ubi Key. You could find a friend with another compatible game and send your key over by holding your consoles really close together and holding A. The person on the receiving end could then play the bonus content. (Personally, I have never tried to see what happens if both parties have the key...) This bonus content in question ranged from a very brief power-up-collecting level to entire modes of gameplay unlocked. Wow! :O Now, although you can of course play every single Ubi Key level, I don't know for certain how many of these games actually contain an Ubi Key to collect. I was only able to find 2 of them when trying all of the games. I've seen instruction manuals mention that Papyrus, Suzuki Alstare Extreme Racing, Rayman, Toonsylvania, and El Dorado all have Ubi Keys. But surprisingly enough one of the keys I found was in Hype: The Time Quest. Emulating the GBC's infrared capabilities is thanks to the GBE+ emulator! This is the only emulator to my knowledge that supports this feature. I will write instructions in the pinned comment detailing how I set this up. (I'll write one later, I'm pretty exhausted rn lol) You might also be wondering why the levels for the games Rayman, Tonic Trouble, and Carl Lewis Athletics 2000 are not here. This is because there is already footage online of these games' Ubi Key content. (and also because tonic trouble has the inputs for sending/receiving keys swapped) I am choosing to instead link to videos from DolmaKalem and MortaDolly. • Rayman (GBC) - Ubi Cliff • Tonic Trouble (GBC) - Ubi Key Level (Super... • [GBC] Carl Lewis Athletics (2000) Longplay Special thanks and shoutouts go out to my friends Maprunner and Tired!! Maprunner was such a good source of support for me through this video's production. She and Tired were also a huge help with giving pointers in how i should design the video's thumbnail and background images. Thank you guys so much!
