The way I think about this tune is basically as two sections, the first section being a four bar phrase repeated 8 times and the second section being a variation on that initial theme that includes the tune's signature slide up the neck and resets the tune to start from the top. Arthur Smith plays a lot of variations in the first which seem to follow a rough order of events, so I've basically written out a transcription of his first time through the melody in the attached music notation page. You can use this a rough guide, or a guide to some of his ideas on variations for this melody, but it's not going to matter if you play the variations in the exact order or not when you're actually jamming the melody. As you'll hear, we have a bit (lot) of fun just kinda seeing what happens in our version with Arthur Smith's version as a guide.
