Highland Park 50 Year Old Whisky Nosing & Tasting Review Notes for this Rare Single Malt Scotch Whiskey. Each bottle retails for £13,500 which places it in the group of most expensive whiskies for sale. https://www.highlandparkwhisky.com/ Highland Park’s Senior brand ambassador, Martin Markvardsen, introduces this Limited Edition release, and he provides expert tasting notes. “An intensely rich whisky with sweet notes of nutmeg, ripe black cherries and brown sugar, light notes of peat. On the palate intensely rich, long woody flavours, lots of dried autumn fruits, and unique flavours that only come from very old mature whiskies.” In 2018 Highland Park hand bottled their 50 year old from only two 1964 Spanish oak, sherry seasoned, hogshead casks. The whisky was bottled at 42.5 % ABV without chill-filtration or artificial colour, with each bottle numbered and signed by Max McFarlane, the distillery’s most experienced whisky maker. The 50 Year Old is presented in a beautiful handcrafted oak box which contains both the whisky bottle, and a stunning crystal decanter encased in polished silver-plated metal. Three top designers collaborated to create the bottle, decanter, and box: The bottle design by Andy Bowman; sterling silver for the decanter by Maeve Gillies; and the box creation from John Galvin. Only 274 bottles of this limited edition were release and is priced at £13,500 RSP = $16,861 from specialist retailers. Note: The RSP (Recommended Sales Price) is likely to be less than the actual price due to the scarcity and quality of this release. Highland Park Distillery is a single malt whisky distillery located in Kirkwall, the largest town and capital of the Orkney Islands, situated north of mainland Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson, a direct descendant of the Vikings, who set up an illicit still in a bothy at High Park, where the name Highland Park is derived, and became the site of today’s distillery. Uniquely, Highland Park uses 5 keystones in the production of its single malts: Aromatic Peat from Hobbister Moor; Hand Turned Floor Maltings; Sherry Oak Casks; Cool Maturation; and Cask Harmonisation. The Highland Park range is extensive including: 10 Year Old; 12 Year Old; 18 Year Old; 25 Year Old; 30 Year Old; 40 Year Old; and 50 year old, the oldest and most prestigious release. Highland Park also produces special releases and limited editions in its Heroes range with whisky names recognising Orkney’s viking past such as: Magnus; Viking Tribe; Dragon Legend; Valkyrie; Valknut; Voyage of the Raven; Sigurd; Ragnvald; and Thorfinn. Highland Park connoisseurs will also be attracted to the Orcadian Vintage Series with editions dating from 1964 to 1976.
