Old Forest Echoes aims to protect the old growth forests of Finland through creating unique artistic experiences for local communities. Combining land art and natural stage design with music in the shape of epic yet intimate concert experiences inspired by the forest, where the composition also takes place. “Our aim is to make people fall in love with these areas which urgently need our protection. Our vision stretches generations ahead where we want to keep these national treasures alive for our children and children’s children.” Old Forest Echoes is the vision of singer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Barbora Xu (CZ/FI), who spends prolonged periods in these endangered areas, conducting artistic research involving deep personal songwriting journeys. Both as a solo artists as well as together with top tier featuring artist from the modern Finnish music scene she creates unique live performances and original releases. The project started by a concert with ensemble (captured on video) and other collaborations include, among others, world renown artists such as guitarist Niklas Winter. Together the sound palette creates a unique sound bridging East and West, combining the ancient with the new, encapsulating the wild and deep spirit of the old growth forests. Working together with soundscape designer and producer Mikko H. Haapoja, as well as land artist Wiebke Pandikow for innovative stage design, attention is given to each detail in bringing the spirit of the forest closer to the audience. The Old Forest Echoes album sales will fund the buying and protection of a patch of old growth forest in Finland. The process is closely followed by award-winning film maker Ville Tanttu, who is making an artistic film documenting Old Forest Echoes, set for release in 2027. The project is in partnership with Luonttoliitto and supported by the Kone Foundation www.oldforestechoes.com
