Using Fmod, I created my own ambiences for a level found in Operation Flashpoint: Red River, called container alley during my work placement at Codemasters (June 2011). This place needed to sound uninhabited and dilapidated. There is a bed of ambience behind my own which is used throughout the game, I did not create this or footsteps or gun sounds. I had to take into consideration; materials; space; distance in relation to the alleys. I created two further ambiences, an overall ambience, including birds, crickets and wind (the further away you went from the alley, the more prominent this would become) and the container ambience (the closer you came to the alley, the more prominent this ambience would become); this included a change of wind, creaks, metallic hits (due to heat) and glass shatters. In smaller alleys, wooden window creaks can also be heard. There are spot sounds which can be heard - flies around food and clothing flutters. I had to take into consideration memory allowance and variance of the samples. A better quality video will be uploaded some time in the near future.
