On 1 August 1966, ITN’s Richard Wakely reported from Wiltshire, where members of the British Unidentified Flying Objects Research Association (BUFORA) were waiting to see if any “flying saucers” could be spotted in the night’s sky. After spending a night with members of the group, Wakely interviewed Brinsley Le Poer Trench, the eccentric chairman of a worldwide saucer-spotting organisation called the International Unidentified Object Observer Corps. Brinsley described his own encounter with a UFO before discussing evidence of government suppression of sightings in the US and the UK. Listing the most common shapes of UFO to appear in sighting reports, Brinsley also had an answer to the question of why sightings weren't more common. Years after this report, following the death of his half-brother in 1975, Brinsley succeeded to the earldom.
