It’s actually a global testing and accreditation program for consumer textiles. Oeko-Tex sets standards to screen fabrics for chemicals and other harmful substances. Textiles can only be certified if all components meet the rigorous test criteria from raw materials through finished products. Oeko Tex certification means that independent labs have analyzed the product for a variety of harmful substances used in producing fabric. To receive certification, all components and materials must comply with the test criteria. Many of these criteria are much more stringent than government regulations. At that time, a product is officially Oeko-Tex certified and is issued a designation stating "OEKO-TEX CONFIDENCE IN TEXTILES -- STANDARD 100 -- Tested for harmful substances." Certification begins with our factory submitting an application to the OEKO-TEX Institute for testing of textile products. The lab then tests the items according to protocol based on the “intended use of the product.” Silk used for bedding is tested differently than silk used for a decorative wall hanging.
