There are a few songs that despite being recorded by Elvis do not surpass the original, although naturally most Elvis fans will prefer his version. Billy Swan’s I Can Help is one such song and this is largely because Elvis’ rendition is largely similar in arrangement although the vocal styles do contrast. Personally, I prefer Elvis’ rendition but this is probably largely because I heard that version first but have also come to appreciate how good the original version is. Elvis recorded the song at RCA’s Studio C in Hollywood on 10 March 1975, the third of four songs recorded that first evening of the sessions. Completed in just two takes it was placed in the middle of side B of the original Today album, released in May 1975. . As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
