Duke Baxter shows us a fun and useful drill for youth ball players to learn how to dive properly. The other day we got asked the question: How can we work on diving? A lot of the kids are afraid to dive. They don't know how to dive, so we're going to show you a very simple way to teach diving. I'm going to start on my knees. Coach D is going to be near the bucket of balls. All I'm going to do is start down here so there's not much to fall, not too much to land on. I'm going to be in this position. He's going to toss to my backhand side, and all we're going to do is get ready and dive and catch. So we're going to start at super simple. We're going to start just like this, dive, and catch. Now, another way you can do it is, for those kids that want to have fun, maybe those little guys, you can start them like this and actually toss the ball, and they'll actually fall and they're not actually even going to hit the ground. So they're pushing off and they're working on their catch and they're keeping everything in the same good position to dive. You can do the same thing on their forehand side. I'm over here, I see the ball. I catch it, I fall. So they're not actually even hitting the ground. This is a great drill, and then they roll right off of it and they understand how to get up and how to throw. So if you want to use this first with the little guys into this one, and then into actually throwing balls, but this is a great way to start teaching kids how to dive for the ball.
