HOMILY | 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time – Year A Theme: Holiness Begins in the Heart In today’s Gospel (Matthew 5:17–37), Jesus takes us deeper. It is not enough to avoid murder — we must confront anger. It is not enough to avoid adultery — we must guard the heart. It is not enough to appear righteous — we must be transformed within. Holiness is not about external performance. It is about interior conversion. In this homily, we reflect on: • Why Jesus raises the standard beyond the Ten Commandments • How sin begins in the heart before it becomes action • The daily choices between life and death (Sirach 15:15–20) • What authentic Christian integrity truly looks like God does not only command holiness — He gives the grace to live it.
