1972 Ford Mustang Hardtop

This is a 1972 Ford Mustang Hardtop which was sold new at City Ford Los Angeles, California in 1972. After spending most of its life in rust-free California, it made its way to Arizona in 2023 where it is now up for auction, selling with NO RESERVE on Bring a Trailer from Cascio Motors. The “Big Horse” Mustangs were produced from 1971 to 1973 as the final iteration of the first generation Mustangs. The Big Horse Mustangs were extensively redesigned and re-engineered measuring 2.1 inches longer and 2.4 inches wider than the 1970 Mustang and stretching the wheelbase from 108 to 109 inches. Following the styling of the 1969 Shelby Mustang, the new Mustang featured a wide Horse Corral grille with inboard headlights, concealed wipers, flush door handles, and a subtle concave tail panel with 3-bar taillights. This car was restored in 2009, with the exterior finished in Silver paint with black stripes on the hood, black pinstripes on the side, and a white vinyl top. This car also features color-keyed dual side mirrors, a color-keyed rear spoiler, and gray 15-inch American Racing wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Radial tires. Underneath, the car features power front disc brakes with drums in the rear and power steering. The interior features front bucket seats with a rear bench seat, finished in black vinyl with silver accents. All of the gauges work and the interior features air conditioning vents, a floor mounted center console, aftermarket radio with a CD changer in the trunk, and more. Power comes from a 302ci Windsor V8 rated for 140 horsepower which was rebuilt during the restoration and is paired with a C4 Select shift 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. This car was optioned with factory air conditioning which has been updated with modern components to keep the interior cool and also features an aftermarket exhaust with Dynomax mufflers, listen to this. Coming in at 3500 pounds, Motor Trend had tested a 1972 Ford Mustang 302 Hardtop, which despite a nominal reduction in horsepower turned a quarter-mile in 17.5 seconds, at 75 mph. Characterizing the standard suspension as “surprisingly good,” MT rated the Mustang a better car overall than an equivalent Camaro, Firebird, Javelin or Barracuda. The Sale includes a copy of the window sticker, an owner’s manual, service records and invoices, historical registration documents, photos of the refurbishment, and two sets of keys.
