Contact us for tactile design board info or table runner instructions at Support@MitsyKit.org. 8” or 16” Christmas Tree Quilt Block Instructions: I) What you will need: • Two 2.5-inch (or 5-inch) squares in solid color in black • Fourteen 2.5-inch (or 5-inch) squares in white • Fourteen 2.5-inch (or 5-inch) squares in black which you will fold, iron and tack stitch onto the white squares to create the black and white Half Square Triangle (HST) • One Yellow YoYo / Rosette – or you could use a button • Three small boxes / containers to hold 2.5-inch (or 5-inch) squares • Six paper clips and ten safety pins • A tabletop with 26 inches or more working space. II) Mitsy Kit® Quilt Block Design Sheet Overview: • The solid 2.5 inch (or 5-inch) squares will have a flat surface, and the Half Square Triangle (HST) squares will have one half of the square raised higher than the other along the diagonal. •Instructions to make each design will guide you to place each of the Quilt Block Squares into rows. The Quilt Block designs will be made with four rows of four squares. The rows go horizontally across the table with Row 1 starting in the upper left corner, Row 2 below 1, Row 3 below 2, and Row 4 below 3. •ORIENTATION OF HALF SQUARE TRIANGLES (HST): When instructed to place a Half Square Triangle square into position in the Row, you will be told to orient the HST so that the raised half of the square is in one of the following 4 positions: o HST in upper right – In this case you should position the raised fabric in the upper right corner of the square with the diagonal going from bottom right to top left. o HST in upper left – In this case you should position the raised fabric in the upper left corner of the square with the diagonal going from bottom left to top right. o HST in lower right – In this case you should position the raised fabric in the lower right corner of the square with the diagonal going from bottom left to top right. o HST in lower left – In this case you should position the raised fabric in the lower left corner of the square with the diagonal going from bottom right to top left. • SOLID SQUARES DO NOT NEED DIRECTIONAL ORIENTATION III) Organize Squares: • Use 3 small boxes to hold different squares by type. • Place paper clips on boxes to identify them by touch. Put one paper clip on box 1, two on box 2, and three on box 3. • Place solid black square pieces in box 1. • Place white squares with raised black HST in box 2. • Place yellow rosette or button in box 3. Christmas Tree Quilt Block Assembly Instructions I. Assemble the quilt block in four rows of four, starting in the upper left-hand corner: Row 1: a. Row 1, square 1 – Place box 1 square in left top corner, pin 1 safety pin on left to id row. b. Row 1, square 2 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper left, to the right of Row 1, square 1. c. Row 1, square 3 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper right, to the right of Row 1, square 2. d. Row 1, square 4 – Place box 1 square to the right of Row 1, square 3. Row 2: e. Row 2, square 1 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper left, directly under Row 1, square 1, pin 2 safety pins on left to id row. f. Row 2, square 2 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper left, to the right of Row 2, square 1. g. Row 2, square 3 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper right, to the right of Row 2, square 2. h. Row 2, square 4 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper right, to the right of Row 2, square 3. Row 3: i. Row 3, square 1 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper left, directly under Row 2, square 1 pin 3 safety pins on left to id row. j. Row 3, square 2 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper left, to the right of Row 3, square 1. k. Row 3, square 3 – Place box 2 square, with HST in upper right, to the right of Row 3, square 2. l.
