Saturday 4th May 2024 and May the Force be with us. A very early start to drive to Chalfont St. Peter in the Chilterns and a 06:00 start time for the London-Wales-London Audax. 400 Km (250 miles) to cycle and a 27 hour time limit to complete the ride. Many thanks to Andrew & Stephen for coming along on this event and huge congratulations to Stephen for achieving his longest ever distance on a bike. We visited controls at Islip, Tewkesbury, Chepstow, Lambourn and Henley, before returning to Chalfont. We managed to complete the route with 26 mins to spare. We are a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers and we are affiliated to British Cycling. We have three levels of membership. Beginner - for cyclists who are new to group riding and would like to develop skills for cycling out on the roads. Beginner Membership subscription period runs from 1st March until 28th February and is priced at £9.00 (+ £1.00 British Cycling administration fee). If you join the club in the final 6 months of the subscription period, the price is reduced by 50%. You are able to attend as many Beginner Sessions as you wish and this will include you in the British Cycling Insurance for HWCC members. Beginner Members are free to use any type of bicycle. Unfortunately, Beginner Members are not eligible to attend our full member club rides, until you have met the criteria below for Full Members. Full - for cyclists who have experience of riding in a group and would like to join with others. Full Membership subscription period runs from 1st March until 28th February and is priced at £29.00 (+ £1.00 British Cycling administration fee). If you join the club in the final 6 months of the subscription period, the price is reduced by 50%. To be eligible to join our full club rides, you must have attended a New Members Induction Ride, be a fully paid member of the club and you must have one of the following types of bicycle :- Road bike with dropped handlebars. Gravel Bike - Preferably with smooth road tyres. Cyclocross Bike - Preferably with smooth road tyres. Hybrid Bike - with smooth road tyres. Overseas - As Full Membership above, but if you do not rside in the UK and would like to ride with us when you come to visit friends or family. Our main ethos is to ride together, we stop for punctures, and leave nobody behind. We will have various level groups out, with the main purpose of getting back to the pub safely for a beer or two with the rest of the teams. Whether a beginner or an experienced rider, we can find you the right group to ride with and meet up with other members on a regular basis. Our club events are graded in the following way:- Red – A beginner session. Orange - A social ride over a distance of 20-35 miles/32-56 km. Yellow - A steady ride over a distance of 35-50 miles/56-80 km. Green - An intermediate ride over a distance of 50-65 miles/80-104 km. Blue - An advanced ride over a distance of 65+ miles/104+ km.
