Navigating Kink Misinformation Online

So how DO you learn about kink online while successfully navigating around the heaps of misinformation? A lot of my work involves undoing the stereotypes, myths, stigma, misconceptions & often DANGEROUS misinformation that people who are just trying to learn about kink so they can be as safe as possible unknowingly come across. And bunk info like this is everywhere -- popular magazines, lifestyle websites, from seemingly credible academics with letters behind their name, etc. And because these sources get used as research by others creating content, misinformation spreads like wildfire quickly amassing believable characteristics of "fact." This can render "checking your sources" ineffective when so many sources seem to back each other up. Media literacy for kinksters is tricky. Even when it comes to books & classes it's not always cut & dry. For instance, anyone can self-publish on Amazon so we still need to check these sources for credibility. And in this arena credentials, certifications & degrees aren't a reliable measure of credibility either. This issue directly and greatly impacts your safety, happiness, and success within kink.
