Here is a very special video! This is my official ident history of ITV1 itself. This channel has held close to my heart as an Anglophile, and, since plenty of my ident histories on regional stations have gained popularity, I've decided to upload this to celebrate the 100,000 subscriber milestone. I also dedicate this to Oliver Ashmole-Day, Rory Clark, and Terence of TV Whirl, whose legacy in archiving will be remembered for years to come. Have an idea for a video? Send it here: • REQUEST BOX! Notes: This video will not include EVERY single variant. I decided to add my favorite variants, including variants included in other logo histories on ITV, because if I added every variant, it would be unwatchable (I mean, have you seen how many ITV Creates idents there are? Woah). I will delete any comments saying "You forgot [variation not included]" or any other criticism that is not constructive. Despite there only being one section, I am possibly going to do a follow-up to this (ITV Studios Logo History). The text style is reminiscent of TR3X's videos from 2022-24 because I'm attempting to improve my content quality-wise. This isn't permanent, and I may change the structure in the next logo history. I'll just have to think of something. Special credit to the TVArk website for some of the footage included in this history, whose hard work archiving for two decades is greatly appreciated. ITV launched its first service, Associated-Rediffusion in London, on 22nd September 1955. The Midlands and North services followed in February and May 1956, with additional franchises awarded by the Independent Television Authority (ITA, later the Independent Broadcasting Authority, IBA) until the network was fully established with fourteen regional stations by 1962. The Broadcasting Act of 1990 significantly changed ITV's structure. The IBA was replaced by the lighter-touch Independent Television Commission (ITC), franchise awards shifted to a highest-bidder auction with fewer safeguards, and companies were allowed to acquire other regional ITV franchises. In 2002, ITV underwent a major rebranding. All ITV regions in England and Wales adopted a unified national identity, eliminating regional logos, with station names appearing only before regional programs. Channel Television (ITV in the Channel Islands) followed suit in 2006, rebranding as ITV1 like the others. As of 2025, the only ITV station not to adopt the ITV1 name is Scottish Television, which remains STV. Today, ITV1 is the UK's largest and most popular commercial television network. Information from Wikipedia, rewrote by me This video was released for educational and historical purposes only. I believe it falls under fair use, and I've given credit to the original creators/capturers of the logos/idents featured in the end credits of this video. No monetization is made off this channel. If you feel a video infringes on your rights, please let me know via the About section on the Jonty's Logo Archive channel (instead of striking or filing a privacy complaint), and it will be promptly trimmed from the video or deleted if necessary. Thank you for understanding.
