As of Feb. 6, 2026, the driver was being held at the Union County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Trooper's Report: On January 31, at approximately 10:59 p.m., I, Trooper Holmes, conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Challenger bearing Texas license plate WSG3556. The vehicle was traveling northbound on United States Highway 167 north of Brandon Lane and was observed traveling at a recorded speed of 115 mph in a posted 60-mph zone. I advised Troop F Dispatch of the traffic stop. As I approached the vehicle, I detected the odor of marijuana emitting from the interior. I instructed the driver to exit the vehicle and advised him that he was under arrest. The driver refused to comply and reentered the vehicle as I attempted to remove him. The vehicle then fled the traffic stop. As the vehicle accelerated, I was dragged a short distance down the highway before becoming disengaged. I regained my footing, returned to my patrol vehicle, and initiated pursuit with emergency lights and siren activated. During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, at times reaching approximately 120 mph in a posted 55 mph zone. At one point, the vehicle traveled northbound in the southbound lanes of United States Highway 167. I performed a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), which caused the suspect vehicle to leave the roadway to the right. After leaving the roadway, the suspect vehicle struck a chain-link fence belonging to Apache Industrial Services, resulting in approximately $1,500 in damage and successfully disabling the vehicle. Following impact with the fence, the driver fled the scene on foot. The passenger remained inside the vehicle and was taken into custody without further incident. The passenger refused to identify herself or provide any information regarding their destination or the identity of the driver. She was later transported to the Union County Jail. The driver was not located at that time, and a search was conducted utilizing drones and an Arkansas Game and Fish K-9 unit. As a result of being dragged by the suspect vehicle, I sustained injuries to my right knee and hip/thigh area. I was transported by ProMed Ambulance to South Arkansas Regional Hospital in El Dorado for evaluation, where I was cleared to return to work. At approximately 2:07 a.m., the driver was reported to be running northbound on United States Highway 167 near the U.S. 82 Bypass by the Arkansas Welcome Center, approximately 2.1 miles from the location where he initially fled on foot. The driver was apprehended, taken into custody, and transported to the Union County Jail. The individuals were later identified as Mr. Calvin Meldon (driver) and Ms. Fortunate Lewis (passenger). Mr. Meldon was charged with the following offenses: Battery, 2nd Degree (Law Enforcement Officer) – Felony; Fleeing Felony; Reckless Driving; Fleeing on Foot; Speeding; No Driver’s License; Failure to Present; Misdemeanor Criminal Trespass; Criminal Mischief; and Resisting Arrest. Ms. Lewis was charged with Obstructing and Hindering.
