Join me as I experience traditional Washi papermaking for the first time in the beautiful town of Mino City, Gifu Prefecture, Japan—famous for its exquisite handmade paper and historic district lined with charming paper shops and washi lanterns. At a local paper museum, I took part in an immersive hands-on workshop, guided by a patient craft instructor, learning traditional techniques such as paper pulp preparation, adding paper decorations and maple patterns, using textured paper, and carefully drying the finished product. This artisan experience was far more challenging and rewarding than expected, offering a unique insight into Japanese culture and traditional crafts. While not yet included in our Japan Craft Tour, this enriching creative activity in small-town Japan might become a highlight in future tours. Watch to see the beauty and intricacy of authentic Washi papermaking! Note: Our November 2025 Japan Craft Tour is already fully booked, and there are only four spots left for our February 2026 tour. If you're considering joining us, we gently encourage you to reserve your spot soon to ensure you don't miss out.
