🐟 Winter Chinook, Spot Prawns & Crab | Bowen Island Catch & Cook 🚨 EPISODE 7 IS LIVE 🚨 This episode started as a simple winter birthday adventure for Danielle. In the middle of January, the two of us headed out for a day on the water — dropping crab traps in Vancouver Harbour, setting spot prawn traps around Bowen Island and Passage Island, and trolling for winter Chinook in Howe Sound. The salmon didn’t quite cooperate that day… but the ocean still provided. After a beautiful winter day on the water, we made a last-minute decision to stay the night at Union Steamship Marina on Bowen Island. Sometimes those unplanned overnights end up being the best part of the trip — quiet harbour nights and early mornings pulling traps. The next morning we hauled our gear and headed home with an incredible catch of BC spot prawns and Dungeness crab. Back at home we finished the adventure the best way we know how — a family catch & cook with our girls. Francis, Braiya & Cora made one of our favorites: Vietnamese Ginger Crab with Butter Sauce (Crab Guts), and we pan-fried the fresh BC spot prawns — simple, fresh, and straight from the ocean to the table. Trips like this remind us why we love living on the West Coast… the ocean always seems to provide. Welcome back to another adventure with The Mai Hootchies Adventures. ⸻ Catch & Cook Recipe Vietnamese Ginger Butter Dungeness Crab Ingredients • 6 whole Dungeness crabs (cooked and cracked) • 1/4 stick butter • 6 cloves garlic (minced) • Chunk of fresh ginger (julienned) • 1 tbsp fish sauce ( if you want ) • 1 table spoon sugar • ½ tsp black pepper • Optional: chili flakes or red chili • Green onions for garnish • Crab butter ( Guts ) • Green onions for garnish • Chicken/Beef Broth ( as much as you like ) • Corn starch ( optional _ • Garlic toast ⸻ Pan-Fried BC Spot Prawns Ingredients • Fresh BC spot prawns (peeled) • 2 tbsp butter or oil • 2 cloves garlic • Salt & pepper • Splash of lemon Instructions 1.
