Optical Seminar at The Department of Physics & Engineering, ITMO | 28 May 2021 Timecodes are below the abstract. Prof. Isabelle Staude, Institute of Solid State Physics Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena Title: "Active dielectric metasurfaces for light-field control" Abstract: Metasurfaces composed of designed semiconductor nanoresonators arranged in a plane offer unique opportunities for controlling the properties of light fields [1]. Such metasurfaces can e.g. impose a spatially variant phase shift onto an incident light field, thereby providing control over its wave front with high transmittance efficiency. However, most semiconductor metasurfaces realized so far were passive and linear, and their optical response was permanently encoded into the structure during fabrication. Recently, a growing amount of research is concentrating on active metasurfaces, specifically on the integration of emitters and optical nonlinearities into dielectric and semiconductor metasurfaces, and on obtaining dynamic control of their optical response [2,3]. 0:00:00 Start 0:00:08 Intro 0:02:38 Outline 0:03:23 Optical MS 0:05:47 Graded Optical Metasurfaces 0:07:48 All-Dielectric Nanoparticles 0:08:51 Silicon Nanodisk Arrays 0:09:52 Tailoring Directional Scattering 0:12:12 Functional Metadevices 0:14:17 Application Scenarios 0:22:13 Potential of Resonant Metasurfaces 0:24:01 2D Materials as active components 0:27:30 Light emitting metasurfaces 0:28:09 Brightness Enhancement by Metasurfaces 0:30:23 Directional Shaping by Metasurfaces 0:32:01 Si MS Hybridized with 2D-MoS2 0:32:12 Fabrication of Hybrid Structures 0:33:24 Photoluminescence of Hybrid Structures 0:35:43 Valley Routing of Chiral Emission 0:36:11 Valley Routing of WSe2 Emission at 4K 0:37:32 The Road Ahead 0:38:36 Nanostructuring of 2D TMDs 0:39:21 PL Measurements @ 300K 0:40:25 Valley Polarization at 25K 0:52:31 Nonlinear metasurfaces 0:54:05 Enhancing SHG in MoS2 Monolayers 0:54:36 Linear-Optical Metasurface Properties 0:55:58 Second-Harmonic Generation 0:57:57 Nonlinear Metasurface Properties 1:00:23 Field Distributions at the SH Wavelength 1:01:54 Nonlinear Monolayer MoS2 Gratings 1:03:58 Ultrathin optical metasurfaces: Free-Standing Metasurface? 1:05:07 Fabricated Metamembranes 1:05:37 Outlook 1:06:38 Current Team & Funding 1:06:53 Dual PhD Opportunities 1:08:02 Discussion " The Department of Physics and Engineering of ITMO University (Saint Petersburg, Russia) hosts online weekly seminars to discuss recent scientific achievements of researchers from all over the world with a wide audience.
