Agincourt – 609 Years on from this dramatic battle of the 'Hundred Years War'. --- Want to support the museum and our online talk series? Donate here: https://bit.ly/agincourt1415 --- Lt. Colonel Robin Phayre discusses the Battle of Agincourt (or Azincourt), 1415, and asks the question, was it the English who won, or was it the French that lost the Battle? Robin looks at the principal participants, King Henry V and Charles VI of France, and with reference to some participants from our home county ofOxfordshire, including the Earl of Oxford, as well as Thomas Chaucer, the son of Geoffrey Chaucer. Explore the landing at Harfleur and the march north towards the small villages of Azincourt, Tramecourt and Maisoncelles, and of course the mud, weapons, and armour of the battle itself. With their ability to move and deploy swiftly, to think for themselves or quickly react to orders, could the archers of Agincourt be likened to more modern light infantry? --- This talk was originally livestreamed (with audience Q&A) at www.sofo.org.uk in October 2023. Please be aware the Art of British War Comics exhibition has now ended at Soldiers of Oxfordshire Museum, but is now touring.
