Trooper's Narrative: On Monday, April 7, 2025, at approximately 1230 hours, while stationary near the intersection of Arkansas State Highway 7 and State Highway 335, I observed a silver Nissan Altima, traveling northbound on Highway 7, pass my location. The vehicle had a visible crack in the driver’s side windshield. The vehicle then turned left onto State Highway 335 southbound. I followed the vehicle, which then turned right onto Morning Star Road. The vehicle, bearing Arkansas license plate AXW76P, crossed the center line while traveling on Morning Star Road. I activated my emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop in the vicinity of Legacy Lane. As I exited my patrol vehicle and approached the vehicle, the driver accelerated and fled. I returned to my patrol vehicle and pursued the vehicle, notifying dispatch of the pursuit. The vehicle performed a U-turn and fled southbound on Morning Star Road toward State Highway 335. It then turned left onto State Highway 335 northbound, briefly entering the northbound ditch before continuing to flee. Shortly thereafter, I closed the distance and attempted a Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI). As I approached the driver's side, the driver abruptly braked, preventing me from performing the TVI. The vehicle then stopped and appeared to attempt a U-turn. It then turned right, heading northbound and approaching my location head-on. I positioned my patrol vehicle to perform a successful TVI, disabling the vehicle near the private drive of 2658 N Wyatt Drive (State Highway 335). The driver, a black male, exited the vehicle and fled on foot westbound. I pursued and apprehended the suspect without further incident approximately 150 yards from the initial scene. The driver was identified as Careem Malik Bolton. A search incident to arrest yielded a black backpack containing loose marijuana and an empty plastic bag. A search of the pursuit path revealed a large plastic bag containing approximately 6 ounces of marijuana. Two open bottles of Fireball Whiskey were located inside the vehicle. Approximately $1,943.54 in cash was recovered from Bolton’s person. Bolton was transported to the El Dorado Police Department to be transferred to the custody of the 13th Judicial District Drug Task Force. The evidence seized in this matter was transferred to the Drug Task Force for further follow-up investigation. Bolton was booked on the following charges: • Fleeing in a Motor Vehicle – Felony • Possession of a Controlled Substance With Purpose to Deliver – Felony • Tampering with Physical Evidence – Felony • Fleeing on Foot – Misdemeanor • Open Container of Alcohol in a Motor Vehicle – Misdemeanor • Driving Left of Center – Traffic Offense Note: Bolton also had an active warrant with the Arkansas Department of Corrections. The execution of the Tactical Vehicle Intervention (TVI), which was necessary to end the vehicle pursuit, resulted in damage to the right-front end, right-front fender, hood, and push bumper assembly of my assigned patrol vehicle. A claim will be submitted to recover damages sustained to the patrol vehicle.
