Starting from Dorfgastein, we now follow the Alpe Adria Trail (Eurovelo 7) into Bad Hofgastein. We then follow the Gasteiner Ache river (separating from the EV 7 briefly). It's a beautiful and easy route to Badbruck, where we then combine with the EV7 once again. From here, it gets very steep as we ascend up into Bad Gastein. If you prefer, this section can be made via local train. We then re-join the Gasteiner Ache (Gasteinertal Radweg) as we reach Böckstein. We travel further to Böckstein railway station, where we board the Tauern motorail (Autoschleuse Böckstein - Mallnitz)with our bicycle to Mallnitz. Alpe Adria Cycle Trail: The route leads from the historic city of Salzburg to the beautiful resort town of Grado on the Italian Adriatic covering approximately 410 kilometres. Along the way, you cycle through the splendour of the Austrian Alps and past Hohenwerfen Castle (which featured in the films 'Where Eagles Dare' and 'The Sound of Music'). You also travel through the wonderful Austrian county of Carinthia, renowned for its sunshine, crystal-clear drinking quality lakes and rugged mountains. From Carinthia, the route crosses the Italian border joining a remarkable ex-railway line through the beautiful Tarvisio, through repurposed railway tunnels and over dedicated bridges that once ferried many rail passengers through the Italian Alps. The route then moves through the Friuli wine region and into the lovely city of Udine before finally venturing out to the Adriatic coast and the charming coastal resort town of Grado.
