Tribute To Goliath - April 11, 2016

This was a hard video for us to film, but we wanted to have it as a way to honor Goliath. We also wanted kids and families to have a chance to see him again and hear how much he was loved. He was truly such a huge part of Scaly Adventures and our lives, and he will be greatly missed. Goliath has been a part of our Scaly Family since June 2012 and he instantly became the mascot of Scaly Adventures. Goliath truly was Pierce's best friend. He traveled thousands of miles with us to visit thousands of children at live events and at schools, and everyone who met him loved him because of his gentle, loving nature. While we never knew Goliath's full medical history, we knew that he wasn't growing at the same rate as our other boa constrictors. According to our Veterinarian, because of this it is possible his immune system was not as strong to fight off a bacterial infection, (Spinal osteomyelitis, which is not contagious to other animals or humans), in his blood that affected his spine. It was because of this that Goliath was humanely euthanized in a loving environment with our Scaly Family at the Veterinarian's office on April 11, 2016. We will miss seeing Goliath everyday, but it gives us peace to know he is not suffering and is enjoying his scaly spot in the sun in Heaven. We are grateful for the years of fun, joy and amazing memories he gave us and we thank all of the children, teenagers and adults who got to know him. Parents, it is very difficult to talk about death with your child, but we encourage you to use the loss of a pet or loved one as an opportunity to grow closer together. We have cried as a family and have let our son see how much we care about his feelings. What matters to him matters to us, it's important for parents to share those feelings with their children. If you are a child or young person reading this, remember that it's important to not keep things bottled up inside. Losing a pet is incredibly difficult and talking about it with someone you love is a great way to heal. To every person who has been a part of our scaly journey, we thank you.
