Kara's Kryptonian Family - "If these wings could fly..." (entry for the Family Ties Contest)

"Kara, you of all people know how heavy it is to survive." ~~~~~~~~~~ Voiceovers are transcribed at the bottom of the description! Supergirl SPOILERS only through 1x14 (season 1 episode 14), "Truth, Justice and the American Way". (Even though more episodes have aired I didn't use any of them. The 11 episodes I did use included more footage than I managed to get into here anyway!) This is an entry for lbchatterbox's & RockberryProductions' "The Family Ties Contest" aka the "FTC":    • Family Ties Contest-Round 1 -CLOSED!   - I chose, as the family I wanted to vid for round 1, Kara's Kryptonian Family. I included Kara with her biological parents, Alura & Zor-El, Kara with her aunt (Alura's twin sister) Astra, a scene where Kara is with her Aunt Astra's husband so technically her uncle, Non, and also Kara with her cousin Kal-El, who goes by the name Clark on Earth. Maybe one day, later on into the series, we'll meet other Kryptonian relatives of Kara's! But for now these are who the show has focused upon. I thought this song, while usually vidded for romantic relationships, could fit these family bonds amazingly. The idea of needing to "Remember" because of all the deaths and experiences with her family being in the past, the idea of "if" things were different, if she could hug or see her family again, the way things make her "think of" certain family members, "I just wanna be by your side"... even with her aunt teaching her the stars, I thought that would work well with the "under a trillion stars" lyric, and even more broadly the idea of a family of hers being from a planet far across space would work for a lyric like that lol. I hope you all feel it as fitting too! It makes me feel like the song as a whole fits really well. I hope you all like how the video turned out! Please leave me some feedback if you can! I ask myself every day why my mother didn't crawl into that pod with me! She died. My dad too. My parents parents passed away when I was thirteen in, um... a fire. You left me alone! You sent me away! How could you do that?! It hurts, but I still feel close with them. Alura: You'll journey to Earth to look after your baby cousin, Kal-El. Kara: I won't fail Kal-El, or you. Alura: I love you, Kara. Kara: My cousin... he didn't need my protection. I remember so many nights, sitting on your lap, listening as you taught me all the names of the stars. My aunt used to teach me the stars. Astra: I didn't want to leave without saying goodbye. Kara: Please don't leave! Astra: I couldn't love a daughter more than if Rao had granted me a child of my own. Alura's hologram: Whatever it is you wish you could ask Alura, you may ask me. Kara: I'd ask for a hug! Alura's hologram: I am not programmed to do that. Kara: I want to help people just like you someday. Alura: You will, Kara. You have the heart of a hero. Kara: Do you see that? I made it for my father when I was eight. I even remember getting upset I couldn't get the wings right. Black Mercy-Alura: And then, he told you it was perfect. Kara: He made me feel so proud, and so happy. Like he always did. Luzano: I was born on Star Haven. Do you know it? Kara: Yeah. Yes, my father took me there when I was younger. It was beautiful. Black Mercy-Astra: We only fly in our dreams, Kara. Kara: The air smelled like... cinnamon. Luzano: It did, didn't it? Kara: And I made this crack when I tripped chasing after Aunt Astra. Alura: We'll be with you in your dreams. Kara: Astra, I have to tell you, when I was under The Black Mercy, you were there. Astra: As your enemy? Kara: As my family! Astra: [whispered] Kara... Non: Do you remember the prayer for the dead? Kara: We will remember you in every dawn, and await the night we join you in the sky. Kara: My normal life ended the second my parents put me on that ship! And that makes me... so... mad. Back on Krypton, no one was their own man. Growing up, I was taught that to accept help from people was not a shame; it was an honor. Alex: When you first came to live with us, my parents told me that you would be sad, and fragile, having just lost your world! James: Here. From him. Kara: It's the blanket he was wrapped in when he was a baby! James: Apparently, this cape won't shred. James: Your cousin never talks about Krypton. Kara: He was a baby when we left. But I remember it. All the time. James: He's really proud of you. Kara: And I was adopted by this really wonderful family that was great to me. So... everything had a happy ending.
