Bodycam Footage Shows Columbus Police Shootout With Burglary Suspect

(Disclaimer: This video content is intended for educational and informational purposes only) * Columbus, Ohio — On Sunday, August 11, 2024, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Columbus Police officers were dispatched to the 1500 block of Worthington Street on a burglary in progress. Initial reports indicated the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Asante Taaj Omar Miller was inside the residence with a firearm, prompting a resident to contact the police. When officers arrived, Miller fled the scene. Officers located Miller nearby, who was armed. Officers gave Miller multiple verbal commands to drop his firearm. Miller refused to put his firearm down, which resulted in officers discharging their firearms. Miller attempted to elude officers by forcing entry into another residence in the 100 block of W. 8th Avenue. While searching the residence, officers encountered Miller hiding in a room, which resulted in additional shots being fired. Court documents and police confirmed that Asante Taj Omar Miller died around 1:15 p.m., approximately five hours after the standoff began in the area of Ohio State's south campus.
