Strange Companions: First Meetings With The Diva By HQ Kites | Sky Rider Limited

From the moment HQ announced the Diva I wanted one. What can I say, I a sucker for a good winglet. I had limited expectations if I’m being honest. I thought the Diva would be fun to fly around and maybe haul some tails and put on a show old school style since with its nearly 10 ft (2.95m) wingspan I couldn’t imagine it would be more then a fly around kite but one that would draw a crowd on account of its size. Well fast forward to the middle of June and with the help of my friends at ‪@flyingsmileskites‬ and ‪@hqkitesdesigns7842‬ I got my hands on a Diva from the first batch to arrive in the USA. It didn’t take long for me to get it in the air and what a pleasant surprise this Diva was from the first moment. For a start, the massive wingspan really suggests that the Diva would like longer lines better, and while it might have additional room to move, the Diva was surprisingly at home on 65 ft (20m) lines. While not as capable as the more modern kites that I spend more of my time with, I found that the Diva was pleasantly comfortable in a fade, on its back and, much like many of its wingleted forebears, really fun to bounce from wingtip to wingtip. The Diva is an odd kite by current standards. It’s a bit heavy and and very big for a kite in 2024. But the Diva’s easygoing demeanor makes it an excellent choice for an intermediate pilot looking to master the flow of old school tricks and make a big impression in the sky. Flying the Diva is much like discovering kites of the middle 90s all over again. It’s a lot like coming home.
