Prefer Tea or Poo? Breaking Down the Bonus Benefits of Worms in the Garden

Let's talk about worm castings & worm tea! I'll talk about what they are, how to use them, and some mistakes we see. https://sandiegoseedcompany.com/produ... It took a while to find the perfect local source, but we are now carrying both worm castings and worm tea which you see here. Worm castings are just worm poop. As worms eat, they reward you with nutrient-rich manure! If you have worms in your yard or raised beds, this is the stuff that you're already getting on a small scale. Castings can add A TON of nutrients to your soil and help build your soil health. Even though it has nutrients, this is NOT a fertilizer replacement. This is more about building the soil and not feeding plants. Worm castings are especially useful for pots and raised beds where you might not have a lot of worms in the soil already. By adding in the poop, you're speeding up the process of building healthy soil by inoculating the soil. On the flip side, worm castings usually comes in small amounts. Even though you don't really need a ton of it, you might want more than a bag. Worm tea is a similar but totally different product. You'll get a tea bag that has the densest part of the castings that accumulates on the bottom of the feeding area. Using it is simple! Just let it steep for a couple of hours. I like to shake it up occasionally to get water in there as well. When you pour out some of the tea, it's going to have a similar effect as the worm castings, and you can use the bag multiple times. So, do you NEED either of these products? Like most fertilizers & amendments, the goal is to not need to use these even though they're natural.
