Sri Ramakrishna Ashrama constructed 176 houses at three interior locations of Chamarajanagar district — Tenkanamole, Elakuru, and Handijogi Colony (later renamed as Vivekananda Colony). The sites for these houses were allotted to beneficiaries by the Government. After construction, the completed houses were formally handed over to the Government, which in turn distributed them to the deserving families. During his stay at Biligiri Ranga Hills, Swami Sureshananda initiated several welfare activities for the tribal and rural population. At the request of Zilla Panchayat officials, the Swami collaborated with the State Government to construct houses for the poorest families in the backward regions of Chamarajanagar district. Financial assistance for this noble project came through Swami Prabuddhanandaji and the devotees of the Ashrama. It is noteworthy that individual toilets were constructed in each house at Tenkanamole with the support of the Vivekananda Service Society, a philanthropic organisation managed by the alumni of Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala.
