Todd Gray discusses what it means to be a Los Angeles-based artist. His work is part of the exhibition "20 Years Ago Today: Supporting Visual Artists in L.A." on display at the Japanese American National Museum from October 4, 2008 through January 11, 2009. Visit janm.org/exhibits/20years for more information. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the California Community Foundation's Fellowships for Visual Artists, this exhibition illustrates the cultural emergence of Los Angeles as seen through the development of L.A.'s diverse visual artists. The California Community Foundation's Fellowships for Visual Artists are made possible by the J. Paul Getty Trust Fund for the Visual Arts, the Brody Arts Fund, the Atlass Fund, the Joan Palevsky Endowment for the Future of Los Angeles and other CCF funds. "Twenty Years Ago Today: Supporting Visual Artists in L.A." has been organized by the California Community Foundation, co-sponsored by the Getty Foundation, and jointly presented with the Japanese American National Museum.
