The free Audacity sound editor displays a "graph" of sound intensity and frequency plotted against time. The time scale moves as the music is played and you can see what point of the graphed wave is producing sound at every instant. This is a demonstration of how this makes sound "visible" using very interesting Assyrian folk music, a line dance name "Dabka." To hear this music and view Assyrian art at the same time, visit • ANCIENT ASSYRIANS 📜 Iraq . What to listen and look for: this music has a constant low drumbeat against which staccato sounds occur at irregular intervals. The volume varies from loud to very soft. Look for how the moving line denoting the part of the wave producing sound crossed densely drawn waves for higher-pitched sounds, and less densely drawn waves for lower drumbeats. Note how higher waves indicate louder sounds and smaller waves indicate lower volume sounds. See if you can recognize the sound that about to be produced by the shape of its wave before it produces sound.
