One of the most common qustions I get from hairstylists is when and how you should raise your prices. I take a pretty simple approach. You can raise your prices when the clients demand it. What do I mean by this? When you are just starting out, you should not raise your prices until your schedule is 70% full. Once you reach that milestone, you can afford to raise your prices by 10% because some of your clients will leave, but it will open up more room for new clients. And since your prices hae increased, you can make up for the clients you lost. Eventually, you will have a full clientele, and at this point, I think it is good to raise your prices not more than once every two years. Increasing your salon prices more often than this will make clients upset, and give you a bad name. Every two years is fair and accouts for the cost of living and back bar increase. When you decide to increase your service prices, make sure you display an announcement that this will be happening and on what date. This shows transparency and keeps you in good graces with your clients.
