Petaling Street is getting a facelift ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026 — so I decided to take a walk and see how things were shaping up. Public holidays in KL are always a mixed bag, and as expected, Petaling Street and the nearby streets were packed. Luckily, I arrived early — before the absolute chaos began — but even then, the crowd was already building. I started my walk from Central Market, passing the colourful Sri Mahamariamman Temple, heading towards Pasar Seni MRT station, then onto Jalan Panggung with its familiar murals. There, I ran into Kamil, who was feeling a little down — one of the walls he’d been working on was set to be demolished soon as part of the renovation. From there, I continued to Kwai Chai Hong, which was buzzing with Chinese tourists. The lanterns from the recent Mooncake Festival were still hanging, giving the alley that signature burst of colour and energy. I followed Jalan Sultan towards REXKL, then looped around to Medan Pasar and the River of Life — one of KL’s most photogenic corners. Unfortunately, Makan.BUZZ was closed that morning, so I didn’t linger for long. Instead, I wrapped up the walk back at Dayabumi — a full circle through the heart of old Kuala Lumpur.
