Case Summary: The Village of Sheepfold claims that Mr. Joey Wolfcryer cried wolf when there was no wolf, which is a violation of Village Safety Ordinance No. I. There is also at issue Village Safety Ordinance No.2 that states that you must cry wolf if there is a wolf. Prosecution Summary: The prosecution claims that three times the villagers responded to the defendant's cries of wolf by running up to the pasture to save the sheep—only to find no wolf just Joey Wolfcryer sitting there laughing. He was laughing because he thought it was funny to make the villagers run all that way. The prosecution also claims that the villagers became so upset and confused by these false cries of wolf that no one knew what to do when the wolf really did come to the pasture. The sheep were lost because Joey Wolfcryer broke the law. Defense Summary: The defense claims that this case is simply about revenge. Not one of the villagers thought about the ordinance until after the sheep were lost. The defense also claims that the Mayor had angry voters on his hands and wanted to get even with the defendant. The defense also claims that Joey was caught between two laws. One says you canot cry wolf if there is no wolf, but the other one says you must cry wolf if there is a wolf. Joey decided not to take chances. When he thought there was a wolf, he cried for help. The villagers lost their sheep because they ignored Joey's cries of wolf.
