VOX AC10HWR1 HAND-WIRED Gut Shots and Does a Celestion Alnico Blue fit? As the amp is still new to me, I'll add more to this section as thoughts form. A couple interesting notes: The speaker wire is hardwired a jack on the chassis. If the speaker wires craps out, you're soldering or paying a tech. The speaker wire should be a plug on the bottom of the chassis, IMO. The reverb tank wire mounts to the back side of the chassis, so if that wire goes on the fritz you have to reach up and behind the chassis, blind and follow the wire with your fingers to find where to disconnect and reconnect. The placement is equally as inconvenient if you need to remove the chassis. These should have been on the bottom of the chassis, IMO. I did go ahead and relocate the wires to the other side of that choke so the wire is not so stressed. The speaker cutout in the baffle is not completely round. If any techs have a thought on the speaker hole, I'd love to hear. I was able to get the Celestion Alnico Blue in, but I heard a buzz as notes trailed off so I've returned the speaker for a replacement. When the new one arrives I'll try to make time to do a comparison video, unless, hopefully someone else beats me to it. I will say that upon turning on the Celestion Blue, it was magical. A beautiful sounding speaker that also feels good to play. The stock speaker is not bad, but in comparison is less detailed and exciting. In the end I don't believe I would have gotten the Greenback out without removing the chassis. So for those owners who want to try a different speaker, be prepared to go that far, or take it to a tech. Vox knows people will want to try a Celestion Blue in this amp. They could have made the cab 1/2 deeper to accommodate better. I count that as an unforced error. The Weber Blue Dog is a smidge less deep. That might be the best case scenario unless you are comfortable with one pre amp tube being like 5mm from the back of the speaker. I've always been told it's a non-issue, but it makes you wonder. Tech's, please comment. Looking at the layout and the location of the speaker, it seems that better planning of the chassis and the speaker location could have likely solved this issue. Sorry for the small plane sounds. We live near an airstrip and once a day they go up, and once a day they come back. Thanks 00:00 - Intro 00:43 - Speaker wire is hardwired to the chassis. Yuk. 01:14 - A look around the board 02:23 - Chassis out, and the cabinet 04:02 - The reverb tank contacts are in an inconvenient spot 06:26 - The Greenback was adhered down by paint 07:41 - The speaker hole is not round? 09:04 - Does it fit?
