The clarinet in Greek music has been a staple since the early 20th century. Due to its versatility and range, it slowly took the place of the Zourna and Flute and has continued to be the primary wind instrument of mainland Greece. It is played from the Evros region (northern most) to the Peloponese (southern most) region and is prevalent at almost every wedding, festival, etc. Greeks still primarily use the Albert system as opposed to the Boehm system because of its resemblance to the playability of a flute or zourna.
