** Specifications ** Overall length: 81 cm (32 in) Blade length: 64 cm (25 in) Blade thickness: 5-6 mm (about 1/4 in) Weight: 900 g (2 lbs) Point of balance: 11 cm (4.33 in) from the guard Blade material: EN9 medium carbon steel (apparently tempered to about 40 HRC) Hilt material: Brass (guard and fittings), hardened leather with copper wire (grip) ** Pros / Cons ** Light weight, nimble sword Beautiful ornamented hilt Well made steel scabbard 3/4 tang with only a single brass screw, too weak for hard cutting Blade has a relatively low carbon content and mild tempering ** Verdict ** This seemed like quite a promising sword, with a unique design and nice handling. However, as it turns out I cannot recommend it for serious test cutting, not only because it comes without an edge by default but more importantly because the hilt assembly is not sturdy enough. The abusive testing I did wasn't even as hard as what I've done with other swords but it made the handle loosen up quickly. Considering the comparatively affordable price it's still worth considering as a collector's piece. It handles well and the hilt looks quite nice. Aside from the structural weakness (which hopefully the manufacturer might improve) it's seems fairly well made. Also I haven't seen any other reproductions of Japanese army swords from that era (1883 - 1945) so far. ** Where to get it ** http://ww4.aitsafe.com/go.htm?go=kult...
