2006 Nissan Altima won’t start - IT’S NOT THE STARTER MOTOR

According to the owner of this vehicle the car would not start randomly, the battery was in good condition, a failed starter motor was suspected. We were able to confirm the customers complaint. When we turned the key to the start position we could hear a buzzing sound coming from the fuse box under the left side kick panel. The origin of the sound was the starter motor relay. We then proceeded to test the two terminals that we’re supposed to have 12v when the key was turned to the start position. To our surprise when the car wouldn’t start the voltage dropped down to 7-8 bolts which was not enough to activate the relay. After having looked at the wiring diagram, we then tested the ignition switch, we had constant 12v coming from the battery, but in the black/white that corresponds to the starter motor relay we also had 7-8 volts coming out of it. That meant that we had a FAULTY ignition switch. After having replaced the ignition switch the engine started right up every time.
