The Movemakers 2025 Homecoming Documentary takes viewers behind the scenes with Howard University alumnus Joshua Mercer, the visionary event producer behind some of the most influential and well-attended experiences during Howard Homecoming. In this exclusive documentary, Joshua shares the personal journey that led him from hosting small gatherings to building Movemakers into a scalable event brand that now serves more than 20,000 patrons each year during Howard Homecoming. Joshua explains what motivates him, how his deep love for Howard University inspired his work, and how intentional planning transformed Movemakers (www.movemakerevents.com) from a side hustle into a professional operation that produces signature experiences year after year. The documentary highlights the planning, logistics, and partnerships required to produce major events such as the Howard Homecoming Yacht Affair, the HU Bar Crawl — the largest Black bar crawl in the country, Rooftop Karaoke Brunch, Blaque Mecca Block Party, A Toast to Equity Welcome Happy Hour, and Howard Lover Friends, along with several other flagship experiences. Viewers get an inside look at the challenges and rewards of hosting large-scale events and the importance of maintaining strong relationships with Howard alumni, sponsors, venues, and Howard celebrities. Joshua shares how consistency and professionalism have helped him remain a trusted and relevant Homecoming promoter for nearly two decades, and how giving back to the Howard community remains central to his mission. The documentary also explores how the launch of HomecomingAtHoward.com became a turning point, creating a one-stop hub for Howard alumni to discover events and plan their Homecoming experience, helping reshape how Homecoming is organized and promoted. Joshua also reveals the marketing strategies that fueled Movemakers’ growth, including an unmatched combination of social media, text messaging, and email marketing, as well as the launch of the HU Movemakers Podcast to keep the community connected year-round. A major highlight of the film is the launch of Blaque Mecca, a whiskey brand created in partnership with Maker’s Mark and Beam Suntory, inspired by Joshua’s Howard experience and introduced during Homecoming as a celebration of culture, community, and Black excellence. More than just an event documentary, Movemakers 2025 Homecoming is a story about vision, relationships, and purpose. It captures why Howard Homecoming is widely considered the best homecoming in the country and how Movemakers continues to create experiences that bring alumni together generation after generation. This documentary is a must-watch for Howard alumni, event organizers, entrepreneurs, and anyone inspired by Black excellence, community building, and legacy-driven entrepreneurship.
