5:30 p.m. Contemporary | Field Trip | Week 3

ABOUT THIS SERIES: We probably all remember growing up and going on field trips at school. With eager expectation, we’d climb on board those big yellow buses and head off for a day of fun and adventure…and the Christian life is no less exciting. That’s why, this year, we decided to go on a field trip – out into the mission field that surrounds us every day. And this year’s field trip took us to the Fort Worth Zoo. In fact, it’s been said that our modern-day life doesn’t take place in a concrete jungle so much as it does in a human zoo. What we will see during these four weeks is that there’s much we can learn from the animals in God’s good creation: lessons about living like Jesus lived and loving like He loved. (Interestingly, each of the animals we’ll study is, also, the mascot of a local school.) For we’re not just called to sit in pews – we, like the early disciples, are sent into the field. The Christian life isn’t a classroom exercise; it’s a field trip. Jesus didn’t say, “Stay and learn,” but “Go and make disciples.” This series explores what it means to be prepared for the mission field: not just overseas, but across the street – dealing with the people in our everyday lives.
