Three terminals are named as, collector, base and emitter. Transistors are of two types, NPN and PNP. This is the symbol of, NPN and PNP transistor. NPN transistor needs 0.7 volt between base and emitter terminal to turn on. Transistor comes in various packages. These are, BC547 and BC557, T O 92 package, NPN and PNP transistors. And these are the characteristics. Turn on voltage, 0.7 volt. Maximum voltage between base and collector, 5 volts. Maximum voltage between emitter and collector, 35 volts. Maximum current from collector to emitter, 1 ampere. Maximum power dissipation, 750 milli watts. Let’s see how a transistor is used as a switch. We will take an NPN transistor BC547. We will connect an l e d and a 1 kilo ohm resistor at its collector. Resistor is used to protect the l e d from uncontrolled current. We will give 5 volts to l e d’s anode terminal. Cathode of l e d is connected to the collector of transistor. L e d will not glow unless its cathode gets the ground signal. When transistor will turn on then l e d gets the ground. Now we will give supply to the base terminal. When voltage at base terminal become more then 0.7 volt then transistor will turn on. When transistor will turn on then it will allow the current to pass from collector to emitter, and the l e d will glow. When base voltage goes below 0.7 volt then l e d will off. This was some basic information about transistor. I hope you enjoyed the video. Thank you so much.
