Mauser have entered the arena with their new Model 25 straight pull or linear bolt system and being a Mauser with its obvious design and manufacturing history have produced a very interesting and great shooting sporting rifle. Available in three models the Pure with a classic walnut stock, Extreme with a sporter polymer stock or as here the Max with its thumbhole stock made of beech laminated wood cover all shooting options. With adjustable length of pull, elevating cheekpiece and lack of warping in inclement weather the Max stock, on test is my choice. The rifle is currently only available in .308, but .243 to .300 Win Mag are in the pipe line but all are cycled by that super fast and short travelling new straight bolt system. Mauser have taken a new look at how best to achieve a safe yet speedy linear system and their opposed radial locking lugs have triumphed in this area of design. Add the familiar saddle scope mounted fitment, infinitely adjustable trigger unit and choice of three or five shot polymer magazines the Model 25 offers good value compared to a Blaser alternative, lets see how it ticks.
