Bab El Mdina – the third studio album from Didon, the JUNO-nominated duo of American producer Carmen Rizzo and Tunisian-Canadian singer-songwriter Meriem Ben Amor, marks a bold new chapter in their collaboration. Following their acclaimed release Malak, the two continue to shape a sound where North African and Middle Eastern traditions meet contemporary electronic music. Carmen, a two-time GRAMMY-nominated artist, brings his refined, long-honed craft to the production, complementing Meriem’s writing and performance with a fluid sense of movement and emotional depth. Translating to “The Gate of the City,” Bab El Mdina stands as both place and passage, a space where ancestral memory meets modern design. Conceived between Prague, Vancouver, and Djerba, the album blends analog synths and hypnotic grooves that flow vividly around the voice. Rather than a continuation, Bab El Mdina feels like an arrival, a meeting of cultures and sounds that reflect the shared journey behind the music.
