Schloss Hallwyl is the most beautiful and important water castle in Switzerland. The castle is located on two islands at the outflow of Lake Hallwil near the village of Seengen. The castle was built in 1265 by the Lords of Hallwyl and then repeatedly extended or rebuilt over the years. Between 1871 and 1873, some buildings were remodelled in the neo-Gothic style. The castle is open to visitors from Tuesday to Sunday from 1 April to 31 October. The museum shows some thematic areas of the history of the castle and the Lords of Hallwyl as well as the way of life of the lords of the castle and the local population in past centuries.
